No. 1 - a beginning?

So… 

Where to begin? I’m not sure what this is, or what it will (or won’t) turn into. I can’t promise I will post regularly. Those who know me know how fast my passions ebb and flow.


On November 5, 2024 I decided to take a break from the news and social media, making a commitment to interacting only with my immediate surroundings. Lucky for me, I’m in a fortunate enough position to do so. Ignorance is bliss, as they say. 


Which made me realize that I used to spend quite a bit of free time on social media. Instagram, to be exact. 


So instead of spending that time on instagram, gaining nothing from that experience, I’ve been doing other things. Taking photos, texting friends, making youtube videos, keeping my house etc. 


I can’t say that it’s a dopamine cleanse; I still watch Youtube too much, probably. 


I think, keyword think, I want to make this a place to share photos and trip reports. But I also want to talk about other things. Let’s stick a pin in that.

The title of this post is the result of what I call Gap-sanity; the point during your Giant Gap run in which you lose grip on reality. This loose mental state generally happens post-cables on river left and pre-pinball. Cam and I then started spitballing names for this specific run, finally settling on "Gaptism," which is defined as your first Giant Gap run of the season. Patagonia 2025: A Bachelor Trip Paradise

Editor's note: Upon receiving reader feedback, I have opted to consolidate all Patagonia blog posts into a single trip report for ease of content consumption. I also would like to take a second and explain the numbering scheme - since the trip is centered around the O Circuit, I used day t-0 as the marker of the beginning of the hike. So negative day numbers correspond with days before the hike, and positive indicating days after the start of the hike.  Day t-3: travel by fir e I'm pretty nervous; I am completely out of my element when it comes to international travel. So it’s safe to say that I’ve pored over my packing list and visualized the trip many times through. A rainy Chamberlain Falls lap; an unexpected score; photographs

I’m lucky. Like really, really lucky.  Chamberlain falls, a sweet, scenic, short class IV run is only 30 minutes from my doorstep. As the winter spins up, our collective eyes are drawn to the Lake Clementine inflow gauge, patiently and eagerly awaiting the flow bump we crave. It’s important to note that the actual Chamberlain Falls run (hereby also known as Chamb, Chambies, Chamberlain) is about 9 miles from the Inflow Lake Clementine (aka Inflow) gauge, meaning there is a slight delay. I don’t actually know the exact timing. Some claim it’s 3-4 hours downstream of the takeout, others claim it’s a whole 8 to 10 hours. The winter also complicates things; since the majority of flows originate from rainfall (as opposed to snowmelt) accretion from streams within the 9 miles to the gauge also add liquid. Essentially, it’s really tough to know exactly what flow in CFS you have on the run. Which is why I generally rely on the Mineral Bar (put in) stick gauge. Unfortunately this gauge ...
